Residency & Citizenship Buying Property or Setting Up A Business Want to stay longer than your original visa? In Luxor simply go to the Passport Office in Khalid Ibn Walid St. opposite the Sonesta St. George Hotel with a passport photo and your passport and you can apply for an extension for 1 year (max). You can go and come during that year as many times as you like but before you leave you should go to the Passport Office to have it stamped....otherwise it is no good and you will have to buy another visa on re-entry. If you go at 10am you should have your visa within an hour...later and you may have to come back the following day. You are not allowed to work on this visa, you must apply for a special Work Permit. 5 Year Residency This residence permit is valid for (5) renewable years and granted to the following categories :
Egyptian Nationality for Foreign Wives The wife submits an application and fills a special form in the presence of her husband. The following documents are required :
The fees: The form of acquiring the Egyptian nationality by the foreign wife costs the following fees:
Temporary Non-Tourist Residency Granted to the following categories:
BUYING PROPERTY or SETTING UP A BUSINESS Egypt is full of potential for entrepreneurs. No matter what anyone tells you (and you will find some government employees who will not know this!) FOREIGNERS ARE ALLOWED (and encouraged) TO OPEN & OWN 100% of their own business. You DO NOT have to have an Egyptian business partner. Here are some guidelines that may seem obvious but quite a few people have lost their money because they neglected these. 1. Don't do anything you would not do at home....like signing something you cannot read! 2. Research your idea thoroughly with more than one person. 3. Employ an Egyptian who has completed the process for others before you to help you with the paperwork. The paperwork is EVERYTHING here and must be complied with (the government are trying to simplify it but slowly!). I would never have got through it without the experienced person I employed for that specific job. If you want to get through the paperwork in less than a year (I am not joking!) the person you hire to help you with this should be on the job full-time, in my opinion a lawyer could not spend the necessary time going from gvt. office to gvt. office - currently it needs a person who can focus on just doing the paperwork and not sharing his time doing any other work. 4. Check out the references and credentials of everyone you employ such as lawyers, accountants, advisors, builders, craftsmen, suppliers etc. 5. Make sure the paperwork checks out, that it is in your name, that it is genuine, that you can read it, that it is properly stamped by the required Government Departments and courts. 6. All the regulations we have in Europe re. licences, fire, safety and handicapped regulations apply in Egypt and the paperwork/inspections governing these have to be complied with here. 7. If your instinct says something is not quite right MAKE SURE you act immediately and go get advice somewhere.
