Mara House has accommodation for couples and also for families.  Our couples suites are intimate suites containing bedroom, sitting room and bathroom.  Our family suites are spacious 3 bed-roomed suites complete with large private sitting room and bathroom.  Downstairs is a small library section with books and games suitable for family entertainment.

Our Salahadeen Restaurant (fully licensed) opens on selected evenings, serving home-cooked traditional Egyptian food.

Salahadeen Bar is fully-licenced and open any time to guests.

Mara House is ideal for visitors wishing to experience life among the "real Egyptians"  It is for those who want a haven of peace from the hustle and hassle of the tourist areas.  This stops (for the main part) once you cross under the train station.  You are entering a different world altogether. 

This is a family oriented residential area where most of the tradesmen and craft workers live and work, the children play in the street and the women and old men sit and chat on their doorsteps. 

You will see the open bakery, the fire station, the coffee/shisha shop, the butcher, the carpenter at work outside his shop, the mobile koshary and falafel vendors,  the friendly pharmacist who is as good as a doctor, intimate community mosques here and there and the numerous little grocery shops.  It is old Egypt and sometimes it is clean, ordered and tidy - sometimes it is not!

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Our bathrooms are "wet rooms" which means the shower area is open, (no shower curtains) and so you should bring non-slip flip-flops to wear in the bathroom when showering, for safety and hygiene reasons.  It is part of the safety rules of the house that you wear them everytime you use the bathroom in your suite.  If you do not have them we will provide them.

2. Payment in full (CASH PLEASE) is to be made on arrival,  (euro, dollar, sterling).  Other than when paying the deposit credit card transactions incur an additional fee.

3. Deposit is first night's rental and is non-refundable if you cancel at any time and will show on your credit card statement as MARY RESTAURANT or MARIE RESTAURANT,  LUXOR.

4. Mara House advises guests to take out their own accident, health and cancellation insurances before booking or at the time of booking a holiday and accepts no responsibility/liability for loss of/or damage to person/s or personal property.

Cancellation Policies

• You can cancel your booking up to 5 days before arrival date and no further charges will be made against your credit card.

• If cancelled within 5 days of the arrival date or you fail to arrive the full suite rental as booked will be charged to your credit card up to a max. of 5 days.

Right to Refuse Admission

1. Mara House reserves the right to refuse admission.

2. Mara House reserves the right to cancel bookings should we see that Mara House or our facilities are not suited the guest's requirements.

3. In accordance with Egyptian law it is necessary for non-Egyptian Nationals wishing to share accommodation with Egyptian Nationals to produce a valid marriage licence.  Guests are not allowed to have non-guest visitors in their suites.

GETTING TO MARA HOUSE

We strongly advise that you allow us to transfer you from the train station 20LE or the airport 50LE.  These are normal taxi rates.  We advise this for 2 reasons.  No 1. Although Mara House is very near the train station we are in a side street which taxi drivers may genuinely have difficulty finding.  No. 2  Some taxi drivers who do know where we are may attempt to charge you extra on arrival by driving you around and around because they are aware you don't know where you are going.  If we pick you up on arrival we can show you how easy it is to get to and from Mara House when you go out by yourself.
